Lay Missionaries

VLM – Voluntary Lay Missionaries was founded on the 20th February 1985 and it handles the Lay aspect of the Pontifical Mission Societies whose main office is in 7, Merchants Street, Valletta.

The aim of the group is to prepare volunteer lay missionaries for at least one year service in developing countries. With this aim in view, VLM offers;

  • Missiology courses
  • Medical check ups 
  • All the necessary arrangements with local bishops for free board, loading, pocket-money for the volunteer besides Visa and other travel permits required.
  • Airfares to and from the mission country
  • A Health Insurance
  • Help to obtain leave with job security for volunteers on their return home (when this is possible)
  • Maintains regular contact with volunteers and their families
